Both test against a copy of the Wait Wait Stats database running on a local instance of MariaDB (10.4 on the Core i9 and 10.5 on the M1 Max). Core i9: 4.826s M1 Max: 2.469s mysql-connector-python uses CExt interface on Core i9 while M1 Max uses pure Python interface.

Running tests previously on the Core i9, running the same tests with mysql-connector-python w/ pure Python would always be at least 40% slower than the compiled CExt interface. There isn't a package for mysql-connector-python that has a compiled CExt for macOS/aarch64 yet.

Also, the 2019 MBP didn't have any other applications running outside of iTerm2, Adobe Creative Cloud and Dropbox in the background. I had multiple Chrome and iTerm2 windows open and I had a 1080p video playing in Plex. 🤷🏻‍♂️
